3 March 2010, London UK

Dear Senka,

This postcard reminds me of one of my best birthdays ever, back in January 2008.  I’d just started a new job but my husband asked me to take a day off so we could go away for a long weekend.  He kept the destination a surprise though.  Turns out he’d hired a car (we don’t have one over here) and even organised a UK driver’s licence.  So we drove west from London, stopping at Reading for lunch and ended up in a small village just outside Bath.  My husband had booked us into a self-catering cottage and got us entry passes for one of the local spas.  On my birthday – the Saturday – we visited the Jane Austen Centre and the Roman Baths, then had dinner at the restaurant on this postcard: Sally Lunn’s House.  Bath is a lovely place, full of Georgian houses and history, thermal waters and wonderful streets to wander through.  It made me want to read the Jane Austen, “Persuasion” once again, and revisit in literature some of the sights I’d seen in person on my wonderful birthday visit.

I hope you enjoy your time in the UK as well.

Best wishes,
